Online workshops
The workshops are informal and friendly and hosted via Zoom. Laughter and storytelling are a large part of every event.
All projects use easy to obtain supplies, with an emphasis on reusing and recycling everyday textiles.
Create and connect
Born out of a need to beat the lockdown blues, The Virtual Thread is a way for people to connect and learn as near to in person as we can make it.
Creating things is immensely satisfying and the slow, focused work gives a sense of wellbeing. The main emphasis for our workshops is stitching and textile art, however guest tutors will broaden the horizon to encompass other aspects of crafty pursuits.
How to join us
There are three strands to the Virtual Thread:
Online Craft Workshops
The main tutor is Jane Grimshaw, founder of The Virtual Thread, plus occasional guest tutors who bring their own unique perspective and knowledge to the workshops.
Free Online Book Group
Each month we pick book that had sewing or some kind of textiles theme running through it. We meet via zoom on the first Wednesday of the month.
The latest read and articles and reviews plus zoom link are posted on our facebook page.
Genteel Profanity Sewing
Our semi-regular Zoom meetups where we stitch swears on to old doilies, fripfrapperies and godwhateries. To join you will need a strong constitution and a potty mouth.
